Kasel Associated Industries has recently recalled a variety of different dog treats, including Nutri-Vet’s “K9” brand dog treats, due to possible Salmonella contamination.
All of the products that were manufactured at Kasel’s Denver, CO, facility between April 20, 2012, and September 19, 2012, have been included in the recall. For those that have purchased these products, please refrain from giving them to your pets and monitor your pets for symptoms of diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain.
Many of these items are sold in national chains like Target, Costco, and Sam’s Club. Infected pets can become carriers and infect people or other pets, even when they don’t exhibit any symptoms.
Many of the recalled items include “best by” dates as late as October 2014, so pet owners should exercise caution. For a full list of affected treats, please log on to www.fda.gov.
Two other pet food companies have also recalled certain products due to Salmonella traced back to parsley used in their products. Kaytee, a bird treat company, and The Honest Kitchen, a pet food manufacturer, are both urging consumers to safely dispose of the recalled items and contact the company for a refund.
