Breast-feeding Protective for Some – Wellness Wire

For all the contradictions about whether or not breast-feeding is best for the baby given the amount of pollution found in mothers’ milk, there is some promising news in support of breast-feeding. A new study reports that it  reduces breast cancer in high-risk women, women whose mothers had pre-menaupasal breast cancer. The results of the study show that there is a 59 percent lower risk of premenopausal breast cancer in women who were breast-fed. That risk is closer in line with the risk for women who had no disease in the family, the study found, according to The New York Times. The new study, published in The Archives of Internal Medicine, used information from 60,075 participants in the second Harvard Nurses’ Health Study.
