Boston, Massachusetts has recently declared a public health emergency because of 18 flu-related deaths reported so far this year.
So far this year, 700 cases of the flu have been confirmed. There were only 70 cases confirmed last year. The 700 cases are only those that were confirmed and reported to the city.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that 29 states, including Massachusetts, and Boston, have reported high levels of flu-like illnesses.
